In one week time I will be ending my adventure in the store in Covent Garden.
what can I say?

well when I started I only wanted a job to survive in london, whilst waiting to go back in the skies, but later i realize that I’ve learn something that will remain with me.

I have put my soul in the job, I’ve done everything in my power to improve and to proof that I deserved the money I earned, I have learnt how important is organize my self and I proved that I can work prorpley with deadline, those skills are really important troughout my carreer as a cabin crew member.

I met a special person in the shop, I’m afraid she didn’t understand how special she was… she is for me; I know you are reading, this is not a goodbye, I just want to let you know that all I wish is your happynes… and that my door and something else will always be open for you as for everybody who worked in the Long Acre Pret a Manger.

Now 5 more days and I will be somwhere else, working hard and being responsible for several people’s life in a box that strand at 35,000 ft of height.
Just to let you know… I will perform better ALSO thanks to your training. now a special word for some of you:

Jurate, you have been an excellent trainer, I know more then everybody that you deserve to wear that blue cap and I am 100% sure it’s not gonna take long before you get it.

Bart, you are an excellent Barista and you’ve taught me a lot, please take it easy and just stay as you are.

Dana, you are an excellent manager, I am only sorry that I did not meet your expectation at the start, but I’m proud to have turn myself around, thank you for giving me the opportunity to stay in the shop and hope to see you often.

Omar, Ludmi, Fanon, Sylwia, Dilia, Abbas and all the shop team, an HUGE thank you for everything you have done for me, since I was on training.

And a Special word for all the Kitchen and Delivery People: Sole, Yien, Sona, Egdar,Roge, Ibra, Mariuz, Aga, Renata  and sorry if I forgot somebody… it’s not intention, I can never forget you guys, the time at pret, OVERALL, has been amazing.

Now for me it’s time to move on, trough the skies…

let me tell me how this 2009 started…
I’m currently working for Pret a Manger, an UK high street food retailer,
most of the job I like: team working, customer service, eye contact
but I obiouvsly don’t see my self in this role for long…

The second week of this year, I got a verbal warning…
I don’t really know why this happens and this turned me down
for my Thomas Cook and Virgin Interview.. I was focusing too much on my current job…

I tripled my effort and try to gain Manager trust and confidence,
and I think I made it…
Was an usual wedsnday and at 7.00pm I was walking out and checking my phone,
The voice mail had a message who said:”Hello Carmine this is XXX from bmi recrutiment,
could you please call me on ….” I jumped…  I said myself… the time is coming finally

The day after I phoned that number and the person who left the message for me was not available,
The lovley lady on the phone send me to another person… the line was the follow:

Person:”Hello, how are you??”
Me:” I’m very well thanks, how are you?”
Person:” I’m fine… after months of waiting we are finally able to offer a start date…
if you are still interested”

and so on… the 24th of febraury I will start my training course for bmi,
after a long long wait… I screamed a YES 7 months long…

now everything will begin again, the reference check process,
the wet drills, the evacuation, smoke hoods… a lot of info to learn,
a lot of fun to have and hopefully a lot of friends to make…

and just to let everybody know, also thomas cook offered me employment.
so I’m still good in passing the assessments.

Hello to everybody…

this 2008 is now going to end, every year is the same old story,
What have I done? did I sort out my life? Do I have a permanent job? 
Did I pursue my Dreams? did I get my soulmate?

All those questions are usless,
In January I was pursuing my dream to fly, and that dream has become true,
for a short time , but at least, while I was at Thomas Cook…I was flying to Live…

then The Oil prices rise, bmi offered me a job but not a starting date yet
so… professional life has been quite crap I might say, but 
The year has ended smoothly, I got a new job and moved to Heathrow with Don, who ended up to become my Landlord and Friend.Thank you for let me spending Christmas with you… and for all the things you taught me…

I would like to spend a few words for all my Colleague that got redundant from Sterling, XL.COM, futura, Zoom and all airlines who went bust this year.
Keep Up guys, there will be a better mood in 2009, I can sense it.

In terms of Relationship this year has been great,
I met a lot of people, people from Thomas Cook, People who simply has the same passion of me for the “flying Word”: Margherita, Giovanni,Maurizio, Lisa, Annalisa,Nick, Don, Steve,Roland, Stefano and everyone who speak or chat with me for the first time in this 2008.

has been a while since I’ve update this space, I was going to do it every night but always forget it.

well I’m now back in London, I live in Hounslow near Heathrow airport , some of you might think I’m flying again, unfortunatly I am not.
bmi has not planned any new course, actually they have been bought by lufthansa and now seems that until the deal get ratified we won’t get called.

it’s a tough time for everyone, the economy is doing so bad, but I am enduring this big recession, I got a nice job who’s now allowing me to improve my customer service and team working skills and I meeting a lot of new people.

In January I will have other interviews and things may get better, I have a lots of plan for the new year.
I only hope all my friends and family will be at my side…

It’s Christmas Eve and All I wish is a very Merry Christmas to everybody’s reading these pages, I wish peace and love to be spread all over this Ill Planet, let’s everybody keep dreaming and never forget everyone.

I will miss my family this Christmas, but I’m sure there will be some friends who will share with me this important day.

alla fine sono rimasto a Napoli, bloccato ancora una votla da un piccolo problema di salute (già risolto), ancora in attesa.

bmi ancora non mi ha fatto sapere nulla di ufficiale, ma a questo punto penso che sarà il 2009 a riportarmi nel mondo aeronautico, la cosa mi dispiace certamente,ma considerando tutte le cose che sono successe negli ultimi mesi , beh forse è davvero meglio così.

I haven’t heard anything from bmi yet and I do really think that only 2009 will bring me back in the skies after considering everything I’ve done in the last few months I think it wouldn’t hurt it too much.

Il 20 ottobre rivolerò a Londra, senza nessun lavoro e senza neanche piu la speranza di iniziare SUBITO con la mia compagnia, ma avrò sicuramente altre opportunità e la possiblità di preprarmi al meglio per Gennaio.

I will fly back to London on the 20th, I will have to settle out again and do something (job, house hunting) and be prepared to start with my airline whit the start of the new year.

Those of us working hard back in the UK may have felt that being left stranded on a Caribbean island because your airline had gone bust was not all bad. After all, there are worse places to be shipwrecked. But those who ended up handing over their hard-earned cash to pay for extra hotel nights and food bills probably saw the matter a little differently.

The people affected most were those who never even made it to the airport, booking their flights with the doomed holiday firm at a time when the top brass probably knew they would not be able to honour their business. The fact that an airline or tour operator can do this and then without warning pull the plug does little for consumer confidence. Add to this how tight money is at the moment, some people may be feeling a little nervous about booking their next flight.

But according to airline industry expert John Strickland, those looking to fly from East Midlands Airport should not panic. The Castle Donington airport is served by three of the major low-cost airlines – BMIBaby, Ryanair and Easyjet.

Mr Strickland, who runs his own London-based aviation consultancy, believes the three airlines will not go the same way.

He said: “East Midlands Airport is better placed than most as it is served by the three airlines which, I believe, will survive the current troubles within the industry.

“Times are tough and there is no doubt that they will suffer like the rest, but they are large enough to take the pain. These airlines are also run extremely well and I don’t think they would allow themselves to get into a difficult situation.

“Of course, people who saw what happened with XL may have been concerned – but I don’t think there is a nervousness that it is going to happen to them. Personally, I think if they are travelling with BMI, Ryanair or Easyjet, they will be okay.”

At the moment, the problems do not seem to have put people off flying and at East Midlands Airport passenger numbers have continued to rise month-on-month.

One of the most important airlines there is BMIBaby – not only because of the routes it flies, but also because it is a local employer. The airline is part of the BMI Group based at Donington Hall and employs about 5,000 people, with about 700 of these working at Castle Donington.

BMI Group comprises three companies – BMI, its long- and mid-haul business, BMI Regional which serves UK airports, and BMI Baby, its low-cost carrier.

Although still based at Castle Donington, BMI’s main hub is London Heathrow, where it is the second largest carrier behind British Airways.

But uncertain times in the industry led to speculation earlier this week that BMI was in takeover talks with Abu Dhabi airline Etihad. BMI has refused to comment on the speculation.

Mr Strickland, who used to work for BMI, said: “I honestly do not know whether there is any truth in that story. All I know is that Sir Michael Bishop, BMI’s chairman, is the sort of person who will only talk about something when he is ready.”

There is some evidence that the pressures of fuel costs are affecting BMI. It is cutting 60 jobs among cabin crew who operate from Leeds Bradford and Durham Tees Valley airports and will also be reducing the amount of flights it runs this winter.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that in common with many others in the industry, BMI has been critically reviewing its winter flying programmes in each of its three airline business units. Like most of its competitors it will be reducing capacity over the winter. This is in expectation of reduced demand and continuing high fuel prices.”

Its low-cost carrier, BMI Baby, will also be reducing flights and suspending some routes during winter.

The spokesman said: “BMI Baby traditionally reduces services over the winter as the demand for the sunshine routes and city breaks diminish and this year the airline has taken a more aggressive approach, with fewer frequencies and some temporary suspension of seasonal routes. Its winter schedule will also be optimised for timings.”

Another measure that the company has employed is what it calls “sensible flying”. This involves its planes flying fractionally slower than usual but still managing to remain on time.

BMI Baby has said it is working closely with airports to ensure its aircraft do not spend an unnecessary amount of time on the runway waiting for a take-off slot, where it continues to burn fuel.

The airline has also introduced tighter limits on excess baggage its aircraft carry to maximise its efficiency.

Managing director Crawford Rix says BMI Baby is well positioned to handle the challenges of rising costs.

He said: “We have always tried to be as efficient as possible but with fuel prices continuing to soar it has really focused our efforts. We have looked very carefully at every route and every mile we fly to see where we can improve efficiency.”

The airline is optimistic about the next 12 months – so much so that it has launched the first phase of its programme for summer 2009 earlier than usual. It said that it was because of demand – with more people turning to low-cost airlines to save money.

Mr Strickland: “There is a trend among the low cost carriers to announce their schedules as early as possible. There are two good reasons behind this. Firstly, competition. If they can get their schedules out before other airlines then it gives them a head start. Secondly, it helps airlines to plan ahead. If people are booking now for next summer it allows them to gauge how busy they will be – and importantly put money in the bank.

“Passengers who already know when they want to fly next year also benefit by booking this early because they get a cheaper price.”
